I was delighted to be commissioned to write this book as I always knew there was a need for a practical guide on the growing and cultivation of Hostas which are almost certainly the most popular foliage perennial in our gardens.

I have grown Hostas over the last 35 years in two gardens, 25 years of which have been spent running a commercial nursery specialising in Hostas grown both in the ground and in containers, raising new varieties and exhibiting Hostas at most of the Flower and Garden Shows, so I felt confident that I knew a lot about how to grow Hostas and this is all included in the book.

Hostas are still a misunderstood family of plants, so this book describes how and where they should be planted, how much sun they can tolerate, how much water they need, suitable garden soils, a seasonal guide to cultivation, how and when to divide plants, very comprehensive information on how to control snails and other pests and diseases and a description of about 100 readily available and gardenworthy varieties.
