Some information on Richard Ford and Park Green Nurseries |

Richard has a degree in Botany from London University and a Diploma in Agricultural Science from Cambridge University. His speciality was Plant Pathology and his first employment was in industry where he was involved in trials to control pests and diseases in commercial agricultural and horticultural crops. Later he was in charge of regulatory affairs for the United Kingdom subsidiary of a multinational chemical company. This involved satisfying Government Departments regarding the safe use of the Company's products as well as dealing with all related regulatory affairs. |

| In 1983 Richard and his wife
Mary, set up Park Green Nurseries - first as a general nursery but very quickly
specialising in Hostas with a major interest in ornamental grasses.
The Nursery exhibits at the major Flower and Horticultural Shows and has been
awarded over 150 Gold Medals, including 7 at the Chelsea Show.
Poacher turned gamekeeper, Richard has judged at shows and is a member of the Guild of Horticultural Trade Show Judges. From the early days of the Nursery, Richard has spoken to Clubs and Societies on gardening subjects. He also lectured part time at the local College of Agriculture and Horticulture. He has appeared in gardening programmes for BBC Radio Suffolk and he and Mary have made several appearances on Television, including a Hosta feature on BBC Gardeners World with the late Geoff Hamilton. |
